Coba Alert

In Recognition Of Those We Lost

May 16, 2020

Dear COBA Members;

As the yearly tradition of Correction Officers Week and Police Week draw to a close, COBA would like to ask everyone to pause for a moment and remember those Officers of our ranks that we've lost. Usually at this time of year, we honor our fallen with a Memorial Service at our Monument on Jail Grounds, then we join our brothers and sisters in blue and gray from across this great country of ours to honor our fallen whose names are forever etched on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC. Unfortunately, this year none of that was able to occur due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

While the world may be forever changing due to the crisis, the one thing we can never do is forget to honor our heroes and those of us that died "In The Line of Duty", or those that passed "In Active Service".

Please scroll through the photos below, and though we can't gather to celebrate their lives together this year, please say a prayer or remember in your own way all those from our ranks that are gone from us, but remain forever in our hearts.

We also remember those of us who passed while in Active Service to the Nassau County Sheriffs Dept from 9/11 Related Illnesses.

Sergeant Mark Baxter

Lastly, we also remember those who began their careers with us at the Nassau County Sheriffs Dept but went on to other careers, only to lose their lives in Service to those agencies.

Timothy Haskell New York City Fire Dept Sept 11th 2001

COBA once again recognizes Retired Correction Corporal Ann Grella for her vision in the building of our wonderful monument at the Nassau County Correctional Center.

We also recognize all the hard work of every member of the Nassau County Correction Officers Benevolent Association's Widows and Childrens Fund. Thank you all for your time and selfless dedication.

Always in Unity;
