Your W-2 Wage and Tax Statement is Different This Year.
Upon receipt of your 2015 W-2's this year please note that Box 1 labeled "Wages, tips, other compensation" does not include the contributions you made into the NYS Pension System. The amount paid into the pension system is itemized on Line 14 of the W-2.
Line 16 labeled "State Wages, Tips etc." of the W-2 shows the actual full amount of Wages, Salaries, Tips and other Compensation including your pension contributions that has to be reported on your IRS 1040 Tax Forms and NYS Forms.
Your tax preparer should realize this, but if you do your own taxes please be aware that your full taxable salary is line 16 not line 1.
We are unaware if this change is evident on every W-2 for each employee. We simply wish to alert you to make sure that you know the right amount to report on your tax returns, and to make your preparer aware so no problems arise later.
If you have any questions regarding this please call the Union office.
Always Yours in Unionism;
