2026 Voluntary Separation Incentive Program

January 12, 2026

Earlier this week, COBA and the County of Nassau signed an agreement which would allow COBA Members to participate in the Voluntary Separation Incentive Program (VSIP).

Below are the eligibility and highlights of this agreement:

2026- Voluntary Separation Incentive Program-(VSIP)

  • $2000 for each year of consecutive Full-Time Employment with Nassau County.

  • Window Period- February 1, 2026, thru March 5, 2026. That’s means that you must submit an “irrevocable” Letter of Resignation (Retirement) and a Waiver/General Release Agreement to the County no later than March 5, 2026. “PLEASE NOTE, THIS INCENTIVE DOES NOT WAVE ANY RULES OR PROVISIONS WITH THE NYS RETIREMENT SYSTEM.  SUCH AS, YOU MUST SUBMIT/POSTMARK YOUR RETIREMENT APPLICATION/PAPERWORK A MIMIMUM OF 15 DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE THAT YOU INTEND TO RETIRE”.  We recommend that you to reach out to NYSLRS prior to your decision.

  • This payment will be part of your Termination Pay and will be paid within 90 days of Separation Incentive Window.

  • Since this is part of you Termination Pay, it will be eligible to be put into the 401a Plan in accordance with the IRS regulations

  • Remember this MOA still has to be approved by the Nassau County Legislature and NIFA.

  • It is the County Executive’s sole discretion to extend the VSIP eligibility not to exceed 90 Calendar Days from the last day of the VSIP Window.

  • Waiver and General Release Provisions- Any employee participating in the VSIP must execute and submit to the County a Waiver and General Release. This waiver will release the County and COBA from any and all claims by departing employees resulting from their employment, except for any such claim, which is pending in court, administrative agency or other forum as of the date of the full execution of this Memorandum of Agreement and, among other things, confirms their agreement not to file or otherwise pursue legal action or claims against the County and/or COBA.

  • Any employee who participates in the VSIP is not permitted to return to County employment within 6-months of resignation date.

We will be having a Retirement Seminar on, January 28, 2026, “strictly for the VSIP” which will be held at the Nassau County Police Academy at 10AM and 6PM.This seminar will be attended by the NYS Retirement System, Empower (457a Plan), Bencor (401a Plan), the Sheriff’s Department Human Resources Unit and our Financial Planners.
