Dear COBA Members;
Yesterday I testified at the Nassau County Legislature's Public Safety Budget Hearing for the Sheriffs Dept regarding conditions and issues at the Correctional Facility.
Numerous topics discussed were the continuing staffing problems, promotions, training, and most importantly the ramifications of HALT in Corrections.
I am happy to say that for the first time in several years, the operational budget for the Correctional Facility was increased by over 2 million dollars. And we hope to have some of the settlement money from the Federal Opioid lawsuit used to address issues at the jail.
Acting Sheriff Anthony LaRocco partially laid out his plan moving forward for this Dept and there were several discussions between Legislators, County Budget Officials and reps from the County Executive's office about conditions and issues in our Dept. Including the possible reopening of the Prison Ward in NUMC.
I urge everyone to take the time to watch and listen to this video so that you are aware of governmental issues that pertain directly to you as Correction Officers in Nassau County.
