Dear COBA Member,

As we begin the new year, we would like to remind members on the Disabled List that the first paycheck of the year will have taxes deducted. This is a standard annual occurrence, as the funds received in the first check of the new year are considered earnings from the previous tax year.

Any taxes withheld from this check will be reconciled when you file your tax return.

To ensure your tax documents are accurate, please email Colleen Hanlon at cmackey@nassaucountyny.gov to request an Amended W-2. Amended W-2 forms will be issued after the County distributes the initial W-2 and W-4 forms, which is expected to occur in February.

If you have already filed your taxes prior to receiving the Amended W-2, you may submit the amended document to the individual or company who prepared your taxes so the appropriate adjustments can be made. If this applies to you, it is advisable to inform your tax professional at the time of filing that an Amended W-2 will be forthcoming, so they may take any necessary steps in advance.
