Coba Alert

Thank you to the Men and Women of COBA

February 26, 2026

Dear COBA Membership,

As you know, this recent blizzard was no ordinary snow storm, but thanks to your extraordinary work in the face of severe, record-breaking snow and frigid temperatures, with many of you working extended shifts and staying on the facility grounds during your down time, our correctional facility remained safe and secure.

Far too often, we do not receive the recognition and gratitude we rightfully deserve. That is why on behalf of the entire Nassau COBA Executive Board, I commend each of you for your dedication and professionalism under these unpredictable and challenging circumstances.

To those of you who I was able to see on Sunday and Monday at the facility, I have the upmost respect for everything you all did. For those of you who I didn't get a chance to interact with, your job doesn't go unnoticed by myself or the Executive Board.

While I commend all of you, I would personally like to take a moment to thank the various Desk Crews, Building Sergeants, Tour Commanders and Desk Lieutenants who I personally watched work tirelessly to ensure safe staffing was maintained, officers were able to receive breaks if needed and excelled while dealing with some of the worst weather conditions Long Island has ever experienced.

While no response is always perfect, the commitment, coordination, and resilience shown by our COBA membership during this storm made a huge difference in the overall outcome. You all are the unsung heroes and we thank you for your service and your sacrifices during moments like this and every day.

Rest assured, going forward, COBA will continue to take an active roll on your behalf in the preparations and preplanning for future emergencies.

Thank you again,

Pete Lilli
