USMC Toys For Tots Kickoff!!

November 24, 2020

Earlier today, Nassau COBA joined with members of the United States Marine Corps, Retired USMC Major Chuck Kilbride, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Police Commissioner Pat Ryder, Sheriff Jim Dzurenda and representatives of Nassau County's other Labor Unions, to kick off the Holiday Season in support of Toys for Tots.

Each year, COBA kicks off this event in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps at Roosevelt Field Shopping Mall with the Presentation of Colors performed by our very own NCSD Honor Guard.

The mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.

This year's event was an abbreviated version due to COVID restrictions.

Unfortunately we were not able to invite local school children who normally attend.

The Toys for Tots program has much more meaning this year with all of the suffering and loss that has occurred in 2020.

COBA will be installing Toys for Tots Donation boxes in the Jail in the next few days and we sincerely hope our members take the time to donate a new unwrapped toy for a less fortunate child this year in particular.

As much as we all complain about all of our daily trials and tribulations, we as Nassau County Correction Officers are all very fortunate to be in this profession. A donation to Toys for Tots would certainly be a good way of paying forward some of that good fortune to a child who needs it.

Look for the Donation Boxes at both Core Control and the 4500 Desk, as well as in the Transportation/Operations Units.

See photos below of today's event.
