Update: 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund

February 4, 2019

You may have heard, the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) is facing a lack of funding that will mean many responders and survivors will not get the full compensation they were expecting and deserve.  This is incredibly important as the VCF provides desperately needed financial help to thousands of injured and ill 9/11 responders and survivors who live in every State.

Worse still, if Congress does not act, the VCF is set to close its doors at the end of 2020, just as thousands more who need help are being diagnosed with 9/11 related cancers.

This cannot be allowed to happen.

We need you to call your Member of Congress now and urge them to join in co-sponsoring this bipartisan legislation entitled: "Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act".

This legislation would fill any shortfalls in funding for the VCF and would permanently authorize the Fund to remain open for years to come.

This legislation will ensure the continued availability of compensation for these heroes and make sure they get the help they need, as well as those that we know, will be facing cancer and other problems in the years to come.

Unless Congress acts, thousands of injured and ill responders will see their compensation cut and worse this program will shut down and thousands more 9/11 heroes and heroines across the country will no longer receive the compensation for their injuries that they desperately need.

We need your help. You can make a difference!

We need you to call your Members of Congress and your United States Senators to join in co-sponsoring this legislation to fully fund the VCF and keep it open.

With the new Congress starting in Washington, this legislation needs to be reintroduced.

The link below makes it easy for you to contact your Member of Congress.

If they have not yet supported the bill, we can connect you by phone to their offices so you can ask them directly to join in co-sponsoring the bill.

If you have not contacted them yet, please do it today!!

If you have already called and they have not joined on the bill yet, please call again!!

If they have sponsored the bill, please thank them for supporting injured and ill 9/11 responders.

Please share this post and urge your friends and neighbors to join you in contacting your United States Representatives.

Remember, these people work for us!

COBA sends this notice on behalf of "Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act", a coalition of advocates working to make sure that Washington, DC does the right thing and fully funds and keeps open the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

Today, more than 42,000 people are struggling with illnesses or injuries caused by the attacks. They live in every state and 434 out of 435 Congressional districts nationwide. Many are disabled and can no longer work.

Please help in making sure that all of these brave responders, including our own members, retirees, and their families are taken care of.

On behalf of:
