Dear COBA Members,
Recently COBA was notified by the Department that due to hiring and staffing issues with CSEA Cooks, staffing the OM 24/7 has become unrealistic. Until the Department is able to process, hire and train more Cooks, they will be shutting the OM down on the midnight tour beginning at 2230.
First and foremost, let me be clear, the temporary closing of the OM on the midnight tour does NOT affect how current "Officer Meal Reliefs" are conducted. NOTHING will change in that regard. All COBA members are still contractually entitled to a meal break and as such, will be provided that break. The OM located in the 832 building is still the only designated OM where Officers are able to eat their meal in a safe and secure area. As such, those working in other parts of the facility will still be afforded the applicable travel time to go from their post to the 832 OM.
In the CBA, it clearly states that a meal (food) will be provided by the Department for COBA members. Since the OM will not be providing that food, a "dinner stipend" as set forth in the contract will be paid to EVERY COBA member entitled to a meal and working during the closed times.
The dinner stipend is $20.00
No additional paperwork or slip will need to be filled out.
EVERY COBA member listed on the main line-up, regardless of rank, will be paid the dinner stipend in lieu of food being provided.
Sincerely,
Pete Lilli
President
