Dear COBA Members/Retirees;
I am the President of the Nassau County Correction Officers Benevolent Association and I sincerely ask for your help in providing assistance to the family of one of our Correction Officers whose son was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Spindle Cell Dermatofibrosarcoma, a rare but extremely aggressive and painful cancer that has metastasized into his bones. Dominique Joseph is only 25 years old, with his whole life ahead of him, but is now facing the grim reality of this disease with only his mother (our sister Officer) by his side, comforting him during this terrible time while he receives his care. Dominique is currently hospitalized in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, awaiting treatment for a clinical trial after previous chemo treatments provided no relief from this insidious disease that is causing him such severe pain that he requires treatment with morphine. The prognosis is not good and there are numerous expenses that are not covered by insurance, while his mother, who is alone in this battle, continues to try and work then rush to his side each day to comfort him. We are starting this GoFundMe page to help pay for certain modifications to their house that are needed to provide better care once he is able to come home, as well as to offset travel expenses to and from the City each and every day for his mother. There is also no life insurance for this young man to cover any additional expenses if/when needed.
Please reach into your heart and help ease the burden for this family as they deal with this terrible insidious disease. Any donation, great or small is sincerely appreciated.
