New Civil Service Email for Corporal Promotions

November 26, 2025

Dear COBA Members,

As some of you are aware, during the recent canvassing for Correction Corporal, it was brought to COBA’s attention by some of our members that they were removed from the “eligibility list” due to no response on a previous canvas. We immediately had our law firm look into this matter and into Civil Service Law. While there is a Civil Service Law that allows for removal after more then two “no responses”, these members believed they were removed after only one no response. COBA immediately brought this to the Department and Nassau County Civil Service that over 20 COBA members might have been removed in error. The Department agreed and temporarily paused the Corporal promotions. Finally, after working on this all night yesterday and all morning today, we eventually had to bring this issue directly to the County Executive’s Office in order to preserve the integrity of the promotional lists, to protect these members and all members going forward.

I am pleased to report that Nassau County Civil Service will be returning ALL COBA members who were removed in error to the eligibility list and resending a new canvas email early next week.

ALL eligible candidates are urged to check your NON-Departmental email and possibly SPAM or JUNK box for this email. A response to this email canvas is required to stay on the eligibility list.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any of your Executive Board members.
