Dear COBA Members;
I'd like to take the opportunity on the observance of the Labor Day Holiday to address the COBA membership as we move forward after the failed Contract Vote last week.
First and foremost, the democratic will of the membership has spoken.
As in any Union, the only way to move forward, protect our rights and grow together is through our membership's participation in the process. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in last week's results, fully knowing the work and diligence that the negotiating Committee put into this endeavor, particularly in dealing with a State Control Board (NIFA). But, the vote tally last week was very telling, not only in its differing opinions of the proposal but also the fact that almost 20% of our membership did not vote for what can only be assumed are numerous and varied reasons.
One thing is for sure, COBA and our members will move forward. We will push the County and NIFA to get back to the table, and come hell or high water, we will secure a deal that will be financially sound and one that supports and protects the benefit levels of our members.
We will continue to keep you all updated and informed on our progress as we move forward together.
For now, I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Labor Day, keeping in mind the very spirit and purpose of this holiday which is to support all workers and the Labor movement in this country.
Always in Unity;
Brian Sullivan, COBA President
