LABOR DAY MESSAGE

September 9, 2020

Dear COBA Members and Retirees;

Summer 2020 is almost over as today we celebrate Labor Day in honor of the working men and women who built this country.

This year more than any other in our lifetimes, Labor Day has a much more poignant meaning. COVID-19 took an unprecedented toll on the labor force this year, particularly in New York. We are all hopeful that this nightmarish pandemic will soon come to an end, allowing us all to return to our normal lives.

Unfortunately for too many families, including our own Correction Family here in Nassau, there will be no return to normal since many loved ones were lost to this insidious disease. And though many of our Members became ill with COVID, we can be thankful that none were lost.

In a world today were good, honest law-abiding citizens and especially those of us in Law Enforcement have suffered greatly at the hands of political opportunists, all while we have worked diligently, became ill and suffered great loss due to this disease, it's easy to see that the world has lost its moral compass. But you have not. You have all endured and proved beyond any doubt what the true meaning of "Essential Worker" is, and today is the day where workers are celebrated and thanked for the jobs they do every day.

You are dedicated, you are all professional law enforcement Officers, and please know in your heart of hearts that you are appreciated by the people who count. Your families, your friends, and law abiding citizens who are safe because of what you do.

Happy Labor Day.

In Unity;

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
