HR Announcement to All County Employees

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

DEPENDENT CARE - SPECIAL ADJUSTMENT PERIOD

TO: All Employees Voluntarily Participating in Depenent Care Flexible Spending (FSA)

FROM: Office of the Nassau County Comptroller, Health Benefits Division

RE: SPECIAL ADJUSTMENT PERIOD

Your Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to set aside a portion of your salary in a special account for a qualified dependent care expense; with a minimum annual contribution of $500 and a maximum annual contribution of $5000.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Office recognizes that you may not incur certain qualifying dependent care expenses you anticipated when making your FSA decision at the beginning of the year.

As such, the Comptroller's office is offering a special adjustment period for your FSA Dependent Care Election starting June 8 until July 15, 2020. During this period, you can reduce the amount of your contribution AND/OR request a refund of your unused contributions to date.

Since your taxable salary is reduced by the amount you have set aside in your FSA, any refunds will be subject to income tax and Social Security Tax adjustments. The adjustments will be reflected in your paychecks before the end of the year.

As with your initial participation in the FSA, your participation in this special adjustment period is voluntary. Please note that, if you make the decision to adjust your annual contribution during this Special Adjustment Period, unless you have a qualifying event, you will not be able to re-adjust before the year ends.

IF YOU WISH TO REDUCE YOUR CONTRIBUTION AND/OR SEEK A REFUND, beginning JUNE 8 ending JULY 15, 2020, you must complete and submit the attached FSA Enrollment form. You can submit the competed from by:

* email at: comptrollerhealthbenefits@nassaucountyny.gov

* hand deliver to: 240 Old Country Road, 2nd Floor, Mineola, NY.

* You may also mail to via USPS to: Office of the Comptroller Health Benefits Unit 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501
