Coba Alert

Efforts to defeat Governor's budget proposals related to workers' comp has been successful!

April 8, 2016

Great news from one of our Workers' Compensation/Disability Attorneys Sean Riordan, concerning the Governor's budget proposals related to Workers' Compensation. Great job as always by Sean and his Firm.

As you may be aware, this year the Governor had put forth significant changes to the Workers' Compensation System in his original budget proposal to the Legislature. Those proposals were not included in the final budget, in other words, our efforts to defeat the Governor's budget proposals related to workers' compensation appear to have been successful!

It is important to understand that this is by no means a final victory.  It is extremely likely that we will face even more significant attacks on benefits and due process rights of injured workers in the near future.  These may appear in the form of legislation, task forces, administrative initiatives, or some other means.

I hope Nassau COBA will continue to participate in our ongoing political efforts.  We do have a plan for the next phase of the battle over workers' compensation, and your help will be as essential to that effort as it was to the budget fight.

But for now, congratulations to all.  This was a job well done by all who contributed to the victory To all those that that  participated in any of the many ways we needed to stop these changes - THANK YOU.
