COVID-19 Voluntary Vaccinations To Be Made Available To COBA Members Next Week

See Below for Important Information On How To Signup

Dear COBA Members;

As stated in my previous email, the Union has been in constant contact with County Officials regarding the timeline for when COBA Members will be eligible to receive Voluntary COVID Vaccinations.

Today, Governor Cuomo and New York State announced that COVID-19 Vaccinations will be made available to Uniformed First Responders beginning next week. The initial procedure for how the vaccinations will be distributed is below as directed by the County, the Sheriff, and the Police Commissioner.

First:

ALL Sworn First Responders will be eligible, tentatively beginning

Tuesday January 12th, 2021. This includes all Police Agencies in Nassau

County, including Village Departments; The Sheriffs Dept; Fire Marshalls;

Probation etc. Be aware that this a large number of people that this is being made available to, and delays should be expected.

Second:

New York State has directed that all Depts contact their employees to establish lists of Officers who wish to receive the voluntary vaccinations so that rolling appointments can be made to ensure as orderly a process as possible. These lists are to hopefully be established by mid day Monday January 11th.

If you do not call in by mid day Monday, this does not mean that you will not be able to receive the vaccine, but there may be a delay in when you can get yours. The call in list is designed to ensure an orderly rollout of the program.

Third:

The vaccinations will be done at Nassau University Medical Center.

It is our understanding that the Moderna vaccine is the one being distributed.

Two vaccine shots will be given with this regimen, 28 days apart.

Fourth:

The Sheriffs Depts Medical Compliance Office will be staffed and available beginning tomorrow (Saturday January 9th) from 0830 hours to 1600 hours for ALL Uniformed Correction Staff to call in and notify the Dept that they wish to receive the vaccine. MCU will also be making calls to our staff to ensure that everyone is given ample opportunity to sign up.

Further direction will be given next week on setting up the actual appointments to get the vaccine.

The Call In Number for MCU is: 516-572-4107.

Call in beginning tomorrow (Saturday January 9th, 2021) at 0830 hours.

Remember, the vaccination program is voluntary.

When you contact MCU you will be asked if you wish to receive the vaccine YES/NO, and to provide the best contact number for you.

Stay Healthy and Safe;

Always In Unity;

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
