COVID-19: Tuesday, March 31st Update

March 31, 2020

Dear COBA Members;

Today I spoke with several Officers and Supervisors regarding issues related to the COVID-19 Crisis. During these discussions, I advised them that most of the information they were seeking was already provided in previous emails that we sent out to our members through this service.

The response I received was surprising and a little disheartening. I was told a few times, "You know Sully, a lot of guys don't read those emails."

While I know this to be generally untrue because of the overwhelmingly positive feedback we receive, it disturbs me to learn that a portion of our membership simply discards or disregards the information that is provided to them for reasons we can't explain.

I hope that all COBA Members realize that this is the most effective and efficient method of providing information, particularly since Lineups are not being conducted during this crisis. With the fast changing circumstances and directives surrounding the Coronavirus, this is the best mode of disseminating information. As such, I urge everyone who receives these emails to share them with your partners, bosses, crews etc.

Moving forward we are looking to add other methods of best communicating information to you in the fastest most efficient manner, including video.

In the meantime, we will continue this avenue as well as sending information through Jail's email service that the Sheriff just approved use of.

We know that many Officers do not have Jail Emails at this time but through the Jail's system we can target Corporals, Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains with these emails to ensure that these messages are being received.

Also, do not hesitate to contact one of your Delegates for any information or assistance you may need. For any urgent issues contact the "On Call" Union Officer any time of day. Those numbers are available at each Control Desk and through the Communications Unit at Ext. 4195. If you are newer to the job or are not sure who your nearest Delegate is, we will post that information at both Control Desks and in an upcoming email.

Look for another update tomorrow regarding the COVID issue itself and several outstanding issues that we have been working on.

Stay Safe, and again always use "Universal Precautions" to protect yourself.

In Unity;

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
