COVID-19 Testing for Law Enforcement Now at NUMC

March 26, 2020

Dear COBA Members;

Today we took an important step forward in protecting our Membership during the Coronavirus crisis.

In cooperation with the Sheriff, the Health Dept, NUMC and Police Commissioner Ryder at OEM, COBA has secured COVID-19 testing for Essential Correction Officer Personnel.

This testing is for any Member that is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

It is important to note that only those who are symptomatic will be tested. Non symptomatic individuals will not be tested due to the real possibility of an inaccurate result.

As such:

If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19 you must notify your Supervisor as we've stated previously. The Dept will make all notifications to the Health Dept etc.

You will then call the Medical Admin Office at NUMC to request a test.

Their number is 516-573-7410

This office will be staffed 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Staff who are currently out of work and awaiting testing will be notified of this new procedure.

Previously, County employees were directed to seek medical attention from their own Doctors or to call one of the Testing Centers for an appointment.

As we all know, those areas were overloaded and individual Doctors offices and Walk-Ins were many times out of test kits.

This new method at NUMC is for:

"Nassau County Essential Law Enforcement Personnel only."

I will keep you apprised of any and all other issues as they arise.

Stay Healthy.

In Unity;

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
