Cost Sheets for Medical Contribution

August 19, 2022

Dear COBA Members;

Please see the following spreadsheets that detail what the cost of the medical contribution will be for Officers over the course of the Step Plan as well as a separate sheet that details the cost at top pay with both the Senior Officer Stipend as part of your Base Pay and without.

Additionally, there are two Step Charts. One for those hired prior to May 31st, 2014 and those hired after June 1st, 2014.

These sheets do not include the Education Differential since not every member receives that item. If you receive Education Pay, that item increases from $482 dollars per year in 2018 to $560 at the end of the contract. Adding anywhere from $9 to $14 dollars per year to your base pay medical contribution.

Keep in mind that these contributions are paid on a "Pre Tax" basis, better than Deferred Compensation, because Def Comp gets deducted after Social Security Taxes have been taken.

**Medical Contributions are not taxed either Federally or by the State**

To use an Example:

Someone earns 100k annually. The medical contribution rate is 2%.

Your W-2 for tax purposes would show that you earned 98k not 100k, lowering your tax liability for that year because of the medical contribution.

For Pension purposes, the full 100k earned is reported to the Pension System.

If you have any questions, please ask any Union Rep or attend one of the additional upcoming informational meetings.

***These charts are viewed better on a desk top computer rather than on a phone***
