Dear COBA Members;
Yesterday, COBA toured the County's new Training Academy/Intelligence Center in Uniondale, along with Police Cmsr Pat Ryder, Deputy County Executive for Public Safety Tatum Fox, Sheriff Dzurenda, Undersheriff Jones and NCSD Academy Sgt. Ray Cotto. It is a large modern multi purpose facility that will be used for Training numerous First Responders and Law Enforcement Units, County and Village Police Depts, Nassau Correction Officers, Sheriffs Deputies, Fire Marshalls etc. It will also be used for various Community Outreach Programs.
Access for our Department's use was outlined and explained. We were shown where our Academy staff will be stationed, as well as where our dedicated classrooms are for the training of our Recruits, SERT Team and In Service Training. There will also be coordination with our Gang Intel Unit to integrate with County Police Intelligence Operations in this facility.
There is a lot of shared space throughout with a large gymnasium for PT/DT training, outside EVOC training, a huge multi purpose lecture hall that can be divided into two parts. As well as kitchen/eating areas, and weight room.
Lockers will be available for use while in attendance by both Recruits and In Service staff.
We are now working on having the Graduation Ceremony for our current Recruit Class conducted in the facilities' large multi purpose gymnasium.
The building is not fully operational yet, with a lot of construction still going on. There will be some integration issues, since our Academy/Dept is still all paper-based, and this facility is mainly cloud/internet based, but we hope that will be worked out over time.
I'll keep you informed as this issue progresses.
See below a few photos of the facility.
Always in Unity;
Brian Sullivan, COBA President
