Nassau County Correction Officer Lou Mendez and his wife received news that can only be described as every parents worst nightmare. Their 4 yr old son was just diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor called a "Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma".
This news can only be described as a gut punch as there is no cure for this disease.
A "Go Fund Me" page has been setup to help Lou Mendez and his family with the inevitable financial burdens that are coming. We ask that you please donate as much as you can to help this devastated family. No one should ever have to deal with this.
Please read the text of the Go Fund Me Page below, describing little Louie's story.
Here is the link to the Go Fund Me Page.
Below is the text of the Go Fund Me Page which was started by a friend of the family.
"My dear friends Lou and Karla are dealing with something that no parent should ever have to deal with; today they got the devastating news that their adorable, sweet and kind-hearted son Louie has an inoperable brain tumor called a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. Louie is fighting a battle that no child should have to fight - the fight against cancer. Unfortunately, there is no cure for his cancer.
Lou and Karla began to notice that their son was complaining of headaches and that he was tilting his head to the side and squinting his eye. They brought him to the doctor and went for an MRI where they got the devastating news. He will be undergoing radiation to attempt to shrink the tumor and give them more time with their little angel.
Louie is taking all of this like a brave little man. There are many more tests and treatments ahead.
We have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the burden of his parents, Lou and Karla. Over the next days, weeks, and months ahead they will need to be at countless doctor appointments, hospital stays and treatments. As you can imagine the normal costs of every day living such as mortgage, food, gas, car, and medical costs can be astronomical.
This will enable Louie's parents to be able to concentrate on him, to help make some of his dreams and wishes to come true, and to help with the medical expenses. Let's all help to make sure that Louie gets to experience everything that he would like to while he is here with us.
From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and if possible in giving (any amount will help).
We thank you for your support and God bless each and every one of you!!"
