COBA PRESIDENT ADDRESSES TODAY'S SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC SAFETY HEARING ON BAIL/DISCOVERY REFORMS

February 14, 2020

Dear COBA Members and Retirees;

Unfortunately, while we in Corrections continue to grieve the recent losses of Jimmy Donlon, James McCann and Mike Citrin, the Bail and Discovery Reform argument rages on.

Today, the Nassau County Legislature held a "Special Public Safety Hearing on Bail Reform". The Nassau County Police Commissioner, DA's Office and Presidents of all Nassau's Law Enforcement Unions testified about everything that is wrong with these new laws and to further expose the dangers we all face as well as the hypocrisy of those who support these laws.

Laws that were enacted blindly, hidden in the State Budget which prevented any public scrutiny or dissenting opinion on these very important Public Safety issues.

COBA has been at the forefront of this issue from the very beginning and we will continue to be the voice of our members and the voice of sanity in a State that has lost its mind.

Please see the video below of my testimony today on the overall issue of Bail Reform, as well as how it effects us all as Correction Officers in Nassau County.

In Unity;

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
