COBA President Addresses Legislature Re County/Dept Budget

October 29, 2019

Dear COBA Members;

Last night 10/28/19 the Nassau Legislature conducted a full hearing regarding the County's budget which they ultimately passed by a vote of 17-2.

Just prior to that meeting, NCPD Chief Ron Walsh (former consultant to our Dept) addressed the legislature regarding Police Radios and the need for monies to be appropriated to update their communications system. After his brief presentation the Legislature agreed to the bonding of $3 million dollars for this Police Dept project.

Needless to say, our Dept is once again on the outside looking in when it comes to the appropriation of monies to correct deficiencies in the Sheriffs Dept. Our Dept's Administration simply does not advocate to improve or upgrade anything here.

COBA finds this continual lack of action unacceptable and detrimental to the security and good order of our facility. We will continue as your elected representatives to be  those advocates on your behalf regardless of the inaction by this Dept and the County.

Please see the video below of my response to Chief Walsh's presentation, the state of our Dept and the Budget.

In Unity,

Brian  Sullivan

COBA President
