COBA Joins other Law Enforcement Unions and Elected Leaders in Opposition to Albany's Bail/Criminal Justice Reforms

May 10, 2019

Dear COBA Members/Retirees;

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining with other Law Enforcement Unions and our local elected leaders in vocal opposition to Albany's recent drive to overhaul the Criminal Justice System in New York. Under the guise of "Reform", almost every measure that has been proposed, or recently passed in Albany serves only to embolden the criminal element in our society, while putting the safety of the public at risk every day. Yesterdays' main topic was "Bail Reform".

This measure that has already been made into law through the Budget process ensures that no one "arrested" for a misdemeanor or "non violent" felony will be issued bail or even taken into custody. They will simply be given an appearance ticket to come back to court at a later date and released.

Please view the videos below for a full rundown of yesterday's press conference, and a better understanding of the issue.

The first video is of the entire press conference with all speakers.

The second video is my part only, where I voice the concern's of COBA.

In Unionism;
Brian Sullivan, COBA President
