Dear COBA Members;
In my previous email, I notified you all that COBA has come to an agreement on a successor Contract with Nassau County.
Earlier today I convened a meeting of the full Board of Governors, comprising the Executive Board and Board of Delegates in compliance with our By Laws. At that meeting, also attended by our Labor Attorneys, the Memorandum of Understanding was fully explained in detail. All questions were answered, issues were defined and line by line the agreement was vetted out. After a 3+ hour meeting, a vote was taken and the Board of Governors voted to accept the Memorandum of Understanding and forward it to our Members for ratification.
Upon completion of the meeting, in an effort to provide our members with the correct information, the entire Board of Governors reported to the Correctional Facility and handed out copies of the Agreement along with a several page Fact Sheet to each Housing Area and Unit.
What happens next:
Beginning Monday August 15th we will conduct informational meetings at times scheduled to provide as many members as possible with an opportunity to attend, ask questions and have the agreement explained in detail.
Unfortunately, our regular meeting place, Levittown Hall will not be able to accommodate us next week for those meetings as early voting for the General Election will be taking place there.
Our first meetings will take place as follows:
Monday August 15th
Meeting #1 will be held at 11am
Meeting #2 will be held at 7pm
At the Lynbrook Fire Dept Rescue Hook Ladder & Bucket Co #1
189 Earle Ave
Lynbrook NY 11563
Please park in Parking Field # 8
DO NOT PARK NEAR FIREHOUSE
Meeting #3 is scheduled as follows:
Wednesday August 17th at 11am
East Meadow Fire Department Headquarters
197 East Meadow Ave
East Meadow NY 11554
Please Park in Shopping Center across street.
Be advised that we are working on securing a venue for at least one additional meeting on Wednesday night. This to provide all Platoons and Units the ability to attend.
I will also have members of the Board of Governors setup in both the Satellite Mess Hall, the Core Union office and/or the Muster Room next week on dates that I will provide as scheduling becomes a little clearer.
Every contract negotiation involves give and take. I urge each and every one of our members to carefully read the provided documents and the Fact Sheets that detail the entire agreement. Please formulate your own opinion on the entirety of the agreement and how it affects you.
All the information you need will be provided to you. The rest is up to you.
Please do not base your vote on what someone said they heard in the OM.
The date of the vote itself will be announced once we have secured the voting machines from the Board of Elections and coordinate the production of the ballots.
I look forward to seeing you all at the meetings.
Always in Unity;
Brian Sullivan, COBA President
