It has been brought to our attention that recently members of the Internal Affairs Unit have attempted to speak casually with staff during their tours. These interactions have happened while in passing, while on post or in non-secure areas of the Facility.

All members must know that any time you speak to anyone from Internal Affairs, ANYTHING you say CAN and WILL be used against you.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OFF THE RECORD!!!

If you are approached by any person assigned to IAU, no matter what rank they hold, immediately ask if you are being questioned as part of a disciplinary investigation:

IF YES: immediately invoke your Garrity Right’s and request a Union Rep.

IF NO: You are under no obligation to engage them in random conversation.

Do not assume that the small talk and back and forth banter is going to be harmless.

They are under no obligation to inform you if you are under investigation or the target of an investigation.
