**ATTENTION** COBA Contract Agreement Reached Today With Nassau County!!

September 22, 2023

Dear COBA Members/Retirees;

I am happy to announce that COBA has come to terms with the County of Nassau on a successor Collective Bargaining Agreement. An agreement that appropriately addresses the specific concerns of our Members regarding the previous contract proposal. This new agreement protects the number one priority of all Public Sector Workers, which is our premium health care. Working in the Correctional Environment, we must always be vigilant to ensure that our level of healthcare is never diminished.

This agreement most importantly protects that level of health benefits with

NO retroactive payment contributions, and also removes the previous issue of a one year sliding scale cap on vacation accruals.

COBA listened to these major concerns of our Members regarding the previous proposal and we addressed them.

The term of the contract runs from January 1st, 2018 through June 30th,2026, and provides proper cost of living percentage increases in the same manner as all other Nassau County Unions, with fully payable retroactive base, overtime and holiday pay increases dating back to July 2020.

We are also proud to provide an increased Senior Officer Stipend and have once again reduced the first 24 hours of overtime payable at the straight rate down to 16 hours. Also included in this agreement is increased healthcare protection for the spouses of future retirees.

In an immediate following email, you will find the signed Memorandum of Understanding, which is the agreement itself, along with fact sheets and salary charts that will show how this agreement affects you.

There is also a chart comparing our agreement with those of our neighboring Correction Officers in Suffolk and Westchester Counties.

General Membership Meetings will be announced for COBA members to attend and have the agreement explained in detail. Myself and the COBA Board will also be in the facility to answer any questions you may have concerning this deal.

I thank the COBA Negotiating Committee for their hard work and dedication in getting this deal done. And I urge each and every COBA Member to vote in favor of this contract to secure your pay and benefits into the future.

Sincerely,

Brian Sullivan, COBA President
