Agreement Reached on Longevity for Nassau Unions

March 16, 2022

Dear COBA Members and Retirees;

Nassau County’s five unions, collectively, are proud to announce that today we signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Nassau County resolving the long outstanding issue of longevity. The unions fought hard for the return of longevity to our members, many of whom have never received it. We’ve been in court and through numerous and long negotiations with the County doing all we could to fight for our members. There is always risk with litigation and arbitration, which itself is a long process. However, we collectively believe this is a fair agreement.

The Memorandum details the terms including the restart of longevity, retroactive payments, and the terms of a longevity chart. However, to ensure there is clarity and a fair opportunity for members of each of the five unions to be presented with the agreement and ask questions, each union will separately detail the terms of the Memorandum within the next few days directly to its own members. For that reason, we do not detail the terms here. In the next day or so you will hear from your respective unions about the Memorandum and the process to ratify.
