9/11 FIRST RESPONDER'S MEMORIAL

September 13, 2019

9/11 First Responder's Memorial

To All COBA Members and Retirees;

Today, COBA had the honor of representing Nassau County Correction Officers at the "9/11 Responders Remembered Park" in Smithtown NY.

Nassau County Correction Sergeant Mark Baxter's name was added to the Memorial Wall honoring 9/11 Responders who passed away from illnesses they contracted due to their work at Ground Zero.
Mark was a responder with our Dept and passed from 9/11 related cancer.

Also added to the Wall today was New York City Firefighter Edward Doyle (Brother of Nassau COBA 3rd VP Brian Doyle). Edward suffered from 9/11 related illness and passed away in the Fall of 2017.

The Baxter and Doyle families were both in attendance at today's ceremony.

The Responder's Park was commissioned by the Feelgood Foundation, a nonprofit organization headed by John Feal, an Army Veteran and former Iron Worker who himself responded to Ground Zero after the terrorist attacks.
Mr. Feal has become well known, fighting nationally for the rights of 9/11 Responders and their families, having recently led the fight to extend the 9/11 WTC Victim's Compensation Fund out to the year 2090. President Trump signed this legislation on July 29th, 2019.

Today's ceremony was a fitting tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Last year Nassau Correction Officer Larry Lamme's name was added to this Wall.

We must never forget the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who ran toward the danger. Especially those in our own Correction Family.

See photos below of today's event.

In Unity;
Brian Sullivan, COBA President
